The Black area is reported on government maps to be underlain by Permian to Triassic sediments of the Cache Creek Complex.

A volcanic rock collected in 1990 on the Black claims contained a trace of chalcopyrite and carried 0.037 ppm copper with 14 ppb gold; andesite from outcrops along the south edge of Black 5 claim carried 53 ppb gold (Assessment Report 21409).

In 1989, K.V Campbell conducted a program on his Black claims that included silt sampling, prospecting and rock sampling. A total of 26 silt samples and 5 rock samples were collected. In 1990 two grids were established by K.V. Campbell on the Black claims. During 1990, 17 rock samples and 3 soil samples were collected on and near the claims. He also conducted 225 kilometres of infra-red surveying and 361 kilometres of ground magnetometer surveying. No previouis work in the immediate area is documented.
